National School Bus Safety Week

Posted Date: 10/22/24 (1:01 PM)

Did you know? Diboll ISD operates more than 10 school buses every day, covering over 100 miles of routes. Our drivers transport approximately 700 children to and from school. That's why school bus safety is so important!

National School Bus Safety Week serves as an important reminder for parents, students and communities to prioritize safety around school buses.

The school bus loading and unloading area is called the "Danger Zone". The "danger zone" includes the front, back and sides of the bus, where visibility is limited for the driver. Parents should remind their children to stay at least ten feet away from the bus in all directions and to wait for the driver's signal before crossing the street. Additionally, teaching children to make eye contact with the driver and ensuring they understand the importance of staying alert can significantly enhance their safety.

Nationally, school bus passing is illegal and it is a deadly risk to bus riders and their caretakers. Drivers should always come to a complete stop when a school bus stop-arm is extended and the red lights are flashing.

Stay alert. Stay engaged. Keep them safe.
