Hi!
Welcome to my page.

This year I will be celebrating 29 years of teaching in one of the greatest districts around! I am blessed this year to be working with our 5th graders as a Language Arts teacher.  I love 5th grade!  I have spent 18 of my years in education in this grade level.
Below are a few things you might want to know about my classes.

Language Arts:
* Assignments for my class are recorded daily on my board. I do not assign much written homework. However, your child should be reading at home about 15 minutes a night and studying vocabulary words.
* I will be using DoJoto contact kids/parents with important information from time to time.
* Your child will be having vocabulary tests. These tests will not always be on Fridays, but rather when we feel we have adequately prepared the kids to succeed on the tests. For this reason, it is very important to check the homework page in the ELA folder or look for a message from me on Remind.
* Your child will be provided about 20 minutes a day of independent reading time. However, to become strong readers, more practice is needed. Please encourage your child to read an extra 10 - 20 minutes each day.
*Graded papers will be sent home on Tuesdays.

A note about Honors ELA:  This class will from time to time have projects that need to be done at home.  Reading is a must.  Students are expected to make their AR goals each nine weeks.

Finally, let me say again how excited I am about this year. Thank you for entrusting your child to me. Please know that I take your child's education very seriously. My goal is that each child grows in knowledge, confidence, and self-determination this year. If at any time you have concerns or questions, please contact me. My conference period is from 8 - 8:55 each day.

Sincerely,
Kathy Custer
