Mrs. Chambers - Classroom Information

Welcome to 5th Grade!!!

My name is Laurie Chambers and I graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Specialization in Mathematics (grades 1-8). I also have a certification in special education and ESL.  I have been teaching for 24 years in 2nd through 6th grades.  My first teaching position was at St. Patrick's Catholic School in Lufkin, but the 2023-2024 school year will be my 25th year to teach at Diboll ISD.  It's exciting for me to see students that I once taught graduate, go to college, and begin their careers. This school year, I am teaching 5th grade math.  I understand that students are now developing skills and work habits that will follow them throughout their lives and I want to play a role in helping my students grow and become more successful. I'm looking forward to a great year with all my students.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

We are beginning our unit on whole number operations. This unit focuses on developing problem solving skills and using whole number operations (add/subtract/multiply/divide). Students need to use their skills from previous grades as well as be able to multiply a 3-digit number times a 2-digit number and divide up to a 4-digit dividend by a 2-digit divisor. Being fluent with your multiplication facts is very important when preforming these skills.
