Learning is a lifetime adventure!!!

Hello!

My name is Angela Russell and I am the 4th & 6th grade Math Interventionist. This is my 12th year with this amazing school district and my 16th year to teach. I spent the first 6 years here in Diboll at the Junior High teaching 8th grade ELA and 3 years teaching 6th grade ELA & Social Studies before I became the 4th & 6th grade Math Interventionist.

My education is as follows:
2000 Angelina College-Associates in Interdisciplinary Studies
2001 SFA State University-Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a specialty in Reading
2011 SFA State University-Masters in Education with a specialty in Special Education/Educational Diagnostician

I also have several certifications that have allowed me to work with a lot of wonderful people and students. I have my Educational Diagnostician Certification, ESL, Special Ed, Reading and Self-Contained 1st - 8th grade.

My goal for any student that walks through my classroom door is to feel safe, loved and secure. I also want students to realize that understanding math is a great tool to have and to see that we use math in our everyday life and that it can be just as much fun as it can be challenging and useful.

If you ever have any questions, please feel free to email me at (arussell@dibollisd.org) or call me 829-6900 ext 51101.

ELA 6th grade Course Overview

The English Language Arts and Reading Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) are organized into the following strands: Reading, where students read and understand a wide variety of literary and informational texts; Writing, where students compose a variety of written texts with a clear controlling idea, coherent organization, and sufficient detail; Research, where students are expected to know how to locate a range of relevant sources and evaluate, synthesize, and present ideas and information; Listening and Speaking, where students listen and respond to the ideas of others while contributing their own ideas in conversations and in groups; and Oral and Written Conventions, where students learn how to use the oral and written conventions of the English language in speaking and writing. The standards are cumulative--students will continue to address earlier standards as needed while they attend to standards for their grade. In sixth grade, students will engage in activities that build on their prior knowledge and skills in order to strengthen their reading, writing, and oral language skills. Students should read and write on a daily basis.
